Antao Earth washbasins by KaschKasch and Villeroy & Boch
Dezeen Showroom: Cologne-based design studio KaschKasch and brand Villeroy & Boch have released a series of hand-glazed, surface-mounted washbasins.
Adding to Villeroy & Boch's existing Antao collection, Antao Earth washbasins are shaped like dewdrops and finished with an Artisan Glaze that is applied by hand.
The finish and application technique highlights natural variations in colour and texture, according to Villeroy & Boch, and was developed with the brand's high-tech glazing lab in Mettlach, Germany.
"The challenge [with the Artisan Glazing] lay in combining an emotionally appealing, highly tactile experience with full everyday functionality", said KaschKasch co-founder Florian Kallus.
"The physical complexity in the kiln is enormous – to extend such a structure to an entire basin in a controlled and reproducible manner calls for maximum precision at the interface between design and high-end ceramics technology," KaschKasch co-founder Sebastian Schneider continued.
Villeroy & Boch intends for the basins to be mixed and matched with items from the wider Antao collection, creating a cohesive bathroom fittings scheme.
The basins are available in three different neutral, nature-informed colourways: Sand, Terra and Smoke.
