Dezeen Showroom: Italian furniture brand True Design worked with Danish studio Norm Architects on a small wooden item that can be used as a coffee table or stool.
The Essence coffee table and stool has a simple, rectilinear form made from squared-off planks of either walnut or oak.
Norm Architects looked to wood as a material to inform the design, aiming for the minimal form to let the grain of the wood take centre stage.
"The interlocking design of the coffee table/stool represents the distinctive element of the entire collection: a functional product, but above all unique, thanks to the precise perpendicular intersecting lines," said True Design.
True Design envisages the piece to be used in either domestic or workplace environments, acting as a small seat to perch on or an unobtrusive side table.
The wider Essence collection includes tables, benches and storage furniture.
