Sail table by Tom Fereday for Design By Them

Dezeen Showroom: designer Tom Fereday has created an aluminium table with uniquely folded edges that Australian brand Design By Them is debuting during 3 Days of Design.

Available in three sizes and usable in indoor or outdoor settings, the Sail table was designed to have an architectural appearance that is lightweight and rustproof.

It features a tabletop made from a single sheet of aluminium that is crimped over the long edges of the table and cuts around the table legs.

Sail has a powder-coated finish and is available in three colours – dark bronze, light bone and a hand-burnished aluminium that celebrates the material's natural appearance.

"The concept for Sail was to create a considered piece that was utilitarian in approach," said Fereday. "I liked the idea of a table that could be used in any context, be it in a meeting room or at an outdoor park with any seating typology."

"The natural variation and beauty of aluminium was the inspiration for the collection," he continued. "We wanted to leverage the strength created when forming aluminium whilst allowing for a soft and inviting design, especially in the details where the body meets the table."

The table is now available for preorder and will be delivered flat-packed, which is easily assemblable.
