This week Patrik Schumacher claimed architecture "has ceased to exist"

This week on Dezeen, we reported on a Patrik Schumacher-written paper that claimed "woke virtue signalling" has destroyed the intellectual rigour of the profession.

Zaha Hadid Architects principal Schumacher made his assertions in a paper titled The End of Architecture in the Khōrein journal.

"Architecture, as an autonomous, theory-led discipline, has ceased to exist," he wrote. "The discipline has self-dissolved, eroding its intellectual and professional autonomy under the pressures of anti-capitalist politicisation and woke virtue signalling."

In a busy week for Zaha Hadid Architects, the studio unveiled Beijing's largest convention centre (above), which was animated with fluid shapes and ribbon-like bridges.

In design news, Norwegian robotics firm 1X unveiled a humanoid robot servant that is dressed head-to-toe in beige knitwear.

Named Neo Gamma, the robot's Scandi, minimalist look was designed to "complement living spaces rather than disrupt them".

Norman Foster and the Queen — Foster + Partners were shortlisted in the competition to create a memorial to the Queen

In the UK, the government announced the shortlist for the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial, which is set to be built in St James's Park near Buckingham Palace.

Among the shortlisted architecture studios was Foster + Partners, which is led by Norman Foster (pictured above with the Queen), along with Heatherwick Studio, WilkinsonEyre and Jamie Fobert Architects.
