A broken Eiffel Tower has landed in the Nevada desert. Created by French artist Philippe Maindron, Eiffela Broken Dream reimagines one of France’s most recognizable monuments as a monumental steel sculpture split dramatically in two. Built at a 1:10 scale, the installation has made its debut on the playa at Burning Man 2026, transforming the familiar silhouette of the Parisian landmark into an image of collapse, displacement and resilience.

The fractured structure measures approximately 30 meters long and 15 meters high and is constructed from 29 tonnes of steel. Its two sections appear to have crash-landed in the Black Rock Desert after a chaotic journey, leaving the tower’s recognizable lattice structure scattered across the landscape.

The lower section, with the Eiffel Tower’s four legs rooted in the ground, represents the sinking of a lost civilization. Its upper section, meanwhile, rises diagonally toward the sky as a gesture of hope for a brighter future. A cable connects the two broken parts, allowing a tightrope walker to cross between them and become part of the installation.

Created in France’s Vendée region, Eiffela Broken Dream was disassembled and transported across the Atlantic before continuing by road to Nevada. Once on the playa, Maindron and his team assembled the monumental installation under the demanding conditions of the desert, reportedly completing the build in just 72 hours.

Now standing, or rather broken, against the vast landscape of Black Rock City, Eiffela turns a global architectural icon into a temporary monument for Burning Man.
